Authentic Bamileke stool
Look at this creation! Isn’t this gorgeous? It is a Bamileke stool. These hand-crafted stools are carving into a continuous piece of tree. The process is astounding. First, the craftsman thrown the trunk into the river to be softened up for carving. During the carving process, if there is a break in the wood the entire piece is abandoned as it is viewed as a break in the continuity of life. Then, he dryed the stool and do all the finishing touches. These are done entirely by hand from massive woods and come in a variety of patterns and sizes. This one pictured is based on a centuries old design. Known as Bamileke stools, they were traditionally used only for special ceremonial seating by the Bamileke Tribe of Cameroon.
